Not the fireworks and patriotic jello salad kind no shade if that's your thing but a quieter kind of uprising , a soul , deep rebellion . A moment to ask what am I ready to be free from creatively , emotionally , spiritually and what kind of life do I want to build , now that I remember that I'm allowed to choose ? I just performed a personal piece in a live show this weekend and let's just say I'm still integrating . I'll share more about that in another episode , but it's got me thinking about what real creative freedom looks like and how scary it can feel like , even when it's exactly what you asked for , because sometimes getting what you want , what you manifested , can bring up a whole new layer of fear and vulnerability , especially when the stakes are high and your heart is all the way in it . So let's take this episode to explore the kind of freedom that doesn't show up in red , white and blue , but instead in the quiet , knowing that you are allowed to choose your art , your pace , your path , because freedom doesn't always roar , sometimes it whispers , sometimes it tiptoes in while everyone else is yelling , and sometimes it looks like saying no to a project that drains you or yes to one that scares you a little or a lot . Letting yourself rest , speaking your truth even when it shakes your voice , creating something no one else understands yet , trusting the invisible thread of inspiration , even when it makes zero sense on paper . And , of course , we cannot talk about independence without honoring the truth that this holiday's history is complicated . The Declaration of Independence proclaimed liberty , but it did not extend that freedom to everyone . Liberty , but it did not extend that freedom to everyone . Enslaved Africans , indigenous communities and generations of people who have been marginalized were left out of that promise , and the effects are still felt today .
Speaker 1For many , the 4th of July is not a celebration . It's a moment of reflection , a reminder of broken promises , a day to reckon with a nation that has not always lived up to the ideals . And that discomfort , that questioning , that's not unpatriotic , oh no , it's very patriotic . It's powerful , it's human and it's necessary .
